Rough Sea oil on canvas board, image 9 x 12 signed LR Constantin A. Westchiloff 1877 – 1945 was an impressionist painter born in Russia. He emigrated from Soviet Russia in 1922, lived in Italy (1923-1928), France (1929-1935), and immigrated to the United States in 1935 and settled in New York City, where he died. Throughout his career Westchiloff painted a wide variety of subjects in the Impressionist style, but was particularly noted for his seascapes and harbor scenes. He operated a studio in New York and often painted coastal Maine scenes. What may be his largest work, "Niagara Falls" at 57-inches wide by 48-inches high, appeared at auction in London in the early 1980s and was resold by an art gallery in Chicago. This is a wonderful impressionistic seascape painted with beautiful subtle color shifts and painterly applied paint. The image is approximately 9 x 12 and 14.75x 17.75 framed. As in purchased condition and could benefit from a cleaning. Frame shows a distressed look. Work has sold up 14,000.00. SELLERS STATEMENT I have been in the art business as an artist and dealer since the early 80's. Almost 40 years now. I primarily concentrate on my own art. My art is derived in a variety of ways. I'm a responder. I respond to light, color, design, etc and I love painting both outdoors on location and in the studio under a controlled environment. I try to convey an idea, mood or just simply a beautiful setting. I'm inspired by a wide variety of subject matter and styles of painting and do not adhere to just one way. My paintings have won numerous awards over the years and have been collected both nationally and internationally. They can be found in three museum collections, the White House Collection and many private collections.
